Digital Dental X-Rays in York, Toronto
Roughly two-thirds of every tooth sits out of sight, along with the bone and roots that support it. Digital radiographs let us find decay between teeth, bone loss, abscesses, impacted wisdom teeth and cysts long before they cause symptoms.
Because the sensor is digital, the image appears on the screen beside you in seconds — so we can point at exactly what we are talking about.
Why digital instead of film
- Significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays
- Instant images — no chemical developing, no waiting
- Can be enlarged and enhanced to spot small changes
- Easy to compare year over year to track a tooth we are watching
- Shareable with specialists in seconds if you need a referral
Are dental X-rays safe?
The dose from a modern digital bitewing is a tiny fraction of the background radiation you receive naturally each year. We still follow the principle of taking only the images that will change your treatment, and we use protective shielding. Tell us if you are pregnant or might be, and we will postpone anything non-urgent.
How often do I need them?
Typically a small set of bitewings every 12 to 24 months for adults with healthy teeth, and a wider view every few years or when planning implants, extractions or dentures. Children with a history of cavities may need them slightly more often.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get my X-rays sent to another dentist?
Yes. Digital files can be emailed to you or to another office on request.
Do I have to have X-rays at every check-up?
No. We take them based on your risk and history, not on a fixed schedule.
Are X-rays covered by insurance?
Diagnostic imaging is covered by most Ontario plans and by the CDCP within set frequency limits, which we check for you.
